Update: Yes, he did it! Not only did Tony finish the gruelling 155 mile Gobi Desert race, yesterday, but he came in 10th of 125 men and women who completed the race, out of over 150 who started!
What an incredible achievement! The fifth stage, in particular, must have been totally exhausting – 60 miles over ravines, through rural farmland and then through sand dunes. It took Tony 14 hours and 21 minutes. Some people needed more than twice as much time to finish. We are very proud of his achievement, and very grateful that he dedicated this effort to Maji Mazuri.

We have made a great start towards achieving our goal of $2 million to build and equip a 30,000 square foot building which will house all of our existing programs – the Head Start school, with places for 350 children, the micro-business loan program, the Teens program and the youth Group – plus a new clinic, a community hall, a library, and an Internet café.

Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Atlanta, which has been a great supporter of Maji Mazuri for several years, has just given us $10,000 to sponsor 4 teachers at our Kiserian School. Yes, just $2,500 will sponsor a teacher in Kenya for a full year!
DUMC is the first donor to join our new program aimed at sponsoring many members of staff in Kenya. Remember that 100% of these funds go directly to Kenya with no deductions for fundraising or administration costs. Please take a look at our web page ‘Become a sponsor’ and decide to sponsor one of our children, or one or more members of our staff in Kenya, who are so dedicated and who work for such modest salaries.
Thank you!
